Team Solan - charity for families affected by cancer
The Parish Council was approached by Mark Solan, founder of a small cancer charity based in Spennymoor to raise awareness about their work in our community.

Team Solan (officially The Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust) is a Spennymoor-based charity that provides emotional, practical, and financial support to individuals and families affected by cancer. Founded in 2015 by Mark Solan, the organisation operates a Support Hub and a large Superstore in the town.
“Working across County Durham and the wider North East, our support is personal, responsive and built around real life. From counselling and wellbeing therapies to financial help, food, travel and everyday essentials, we’re here to ease the pressure and provide support when it’s needed most.
Because when life is turned upside down, no one in the North East should face it alone.”

Team Solan aims to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their loved ones through bespoke support:
Support Hub: Located at 26-28 High Street, it features a drop-in center, counseling, complementary therapies, and a dedicated beauty and wig room.
Financial & Practical Help: They assist families with essential household items, clothing, and signposting to financial relief.
Community: The charity hosts weekly coffee mornings, support groups, and workshops to create a normal, calming environment during a difficult time.

To help fund these free services for local families (known as their "Warriors"), the charity relies on public fundraising and its retail presence in the town.
The Team Solan Superstore: Located at 3 High Street, this store sells furniture, clothing, and homeware. The revenue generated goes directly into sustaining the charity's work.
