The Parish Council is pleased to share the good news regarding the swings that have been taken down due to health and safety concerns

Planned improvements for Heighington playground finally set to go ahead

It has been a long wait, but plans to upgrade the playground adjacent to the football pitches in Heighington have at last been finalised and a contract signed. The works will restore the lost swings, address safety concerns and repair the worn out grounds to make the play area more inviting for children and families.

Two sets of swings were removed some time ago after health and safety inspections identified faults. Since then the Parish Council has navigated several delays: obtaining and comparing multiple quotations, responding to findings from the annual RoSPA Play Safety Ltd inspection that altered the scope of works, and securing the necessary funding.

Once the contractor begins work, a 2.4 m high swing unit will be installed, including a basket seat, and 2 of each cradle and flat seats. The 2 springers also will be replaced with a Ladybug Spring Rider and a Frog ‘Sit-in’ Springer. Crucially, the worn ground around the these will be repaired and made safe and comfortable for play.

Additionally, the council received great news last month - an application was successful for a further funding of £18.000. This will allow to install a beautiful new climbing frame and replacing the see-saw springer - and most importantly repairing the well worn ground around it.

Preparation is in progress for a detailed schedule for the works. The council aims to keep disruption to park users to a minimum. Exact start and finish dates will be published once the contractor confirms logistics and timescales.

The council would like to express sincere thanks to residents for their patience while the various issues were resolved. The upgrades reflect a commitment to providing safe, enjoyable outdoor spaces for Heighington’s children and families.

Keep an eye on Heighington Connect for firm dates and short-term access arrangements. When complete, the refreshed playground will be a welcoming spot once more for play, socialising and watching matches on the nearby pitches.
