Practical first aid sessions coming soon

St. John Ambulance

Empowering people to act confidently in an emergency

A couple of months ago St. John Ambulance reached out to the Parish Council to offer friendly, practical first aid sessions for local residents, called the Village Project.

The PC welcomed the idea as it could be a real benefit to the community and help St John Ambulance to work towards their vision: a world where everyone is first aid confident, ready and able to respond when needed.

St John Ambulance is a well-known charity that works across communities to help people learn simple, life-saving skills. They will support the parish by running relaxed, easy-to-follow sessions that give people the confidence to help in an emergency until professional help arrives.

The sessions would focus on everyday situations that anyone could encounter, including:

- What to do if someone is bleeding heavily

- How to help someone who is choking

- CPR and how to use a defibrillator

- Spotting the signs of a stroke

- Recognising and responding to a heart attack

The sessions are designed to be welcoming and practical, with hands-on demonstrations and plenty of time for questions. They can be adapted for different groups within the community, last around two hours per session and can be hosted on an evening or a daytime or weekend.

The Village Project has zero cost associated with it, the idea behind the project is to try and ensure that at least one person or more from each street is confident to be able to save a life and know what to do in an emergency.

The PC and St John Ambulance both believe this would be a positive way to bring people together while helping to make the community a safer place for everyone.
